Eurozone ministers discuss Greek bailout in Brussels after Tsipras calls Greferendum

FXStreet (Córdoba) - Eurozone finance ministers are gathered in Brussels to discuss Greek bailout after Greek government announced past midnight it will call to a national referendum on whether to accept austerity demands from creditors.

Arriving to the meeting, Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem told reporters that he was very negatively surprised by Greek government’s decision to call a referendum adding that Athens has closed the door on future talks. In the same line, Germany’s finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, told reporters that Greece has decided to end negotiations. He said there are no basis for further talks with Greece.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde on the other hand said they will continue to work on Greece.

Meanwhile, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis is expected to ask Eurogroup for bailout extension of few weeks to accommodate referendum, according to Reuters

PBoC cuts interest rates and RRR to support economy

The People’s Bank of China cut interest rates on Saturday and also lowered the amount of reserves certain banks are required to hold (RRR) in and attempt to underpin the economy.
